On Friday, May 16, the University of Mississippi School of Medicine welcomed over 100 college students to campus for Pre-Med Day—an engaging event designed to support and guide college students interested in applying to medical school.

Attendees enjoyed a guided campus tour led by first-year medical students, which offered an insightful look at the facilities and student life at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. A highlight of the day was a student panel discussion, where current medical students shared candid reflections on their journeys to becoming physicians. First-year medical students discussed the expectations of the profession and provided insights into their daily experiences in medical school.

Dr. Loretta Jackson, Vice Dean of Medical Education, opened the event with warmth and encouragement. Her welcome emphasized the importance of community, resilience, and purpose in the field of medicine. The day also featured a key presentation from Dr. Demondes Haynes, Associate Dean of Admissions, who provided a detailed overview of the admissions process and highlighted the characteristics that make a strong and competitive applicant.

The event offered invaluable resources, inspiration, and mentorship for students considering a career in the medical field. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing that the experience enhanced their commitment to pursuing a future in medicine.
